Interested in growing your own beautiful, dark purple eggplants? Here is a guide to all things aubergines:
Eggplants are warm season plants and require warm soil to grow. They grow best when temperatures outside are between 70 to 85 degrees. For the best results, grow eggplants in a location where they get full sun, or at least 6 to 8 hours of sun per day.
We recommend starting your eggplant seeds indoors in flats or peat pots 6 to 8 weeks prior to the last spring frost. Once summer begins and temperatures outside reach 70 degrees on average, set the seedlings in a plot with sandy loam or loam soil and cover the seedlings with black mulch. Set 24-inch-high stakes for each plant as eggplants will fall over once laden with fruit.
