Tips for Raised Herb Beds

Raised bed gardening provides the following benefits:

  1. Improved drainage – by preventing waterlogged roots and promoting healthy plant growth
  2. Reduced weeds – by providing elevated soil levels and a controlled environment
  3. Season extension – by warming up faster in the spring and cooling down slower in the fall

Here are some recommended fall/winter herbs to plant in raised herb beds:

  • Lavender – planted in the fall
  • Woody herbs (Thyme, Sage, Rosemary) – they overwinter well
  • Parsley, Dill, Shiso, Lemon Balm, and Cilantro – prefer cooler temperatures and thrive in the fall

Pro tip: Don’t plant Stevia in the fall because it is extremely frost-sensitive!
